Other In-Game Characters: [au] Riku Replica (Ira)
Character (Original Universe)
Name: Lucrecia Crescent
Age: Physically late twenties, actually about fifty-six.
Gender: Female
Canon: Final Fantasy VII Compilation
Canon Point: Lucrecia's Cave in the OG -> End of the Another Side, Another Story event.
Canon History: Wikia
Personality: With a passing glance, Lucrecia may seem like an individual filled with contradictions. Caring, but uncaring. Stable, yet unstable. Motherly, yet unable to be one. After all, her role beyond being a literary foil to both Vincent and Hojo was giving birth to the man who would be a monster, nurturing the beginnings of the crisis that would inflict the planet more than once, and her many regrets and mistakes.
Lucrecia was, and in some ways still is, a caring and naive soul. When she was younger, she was a very bright and enthused by her chosen occupation; often curious to her own fault. She shows concern for others, and a desire to prove the others in her field wrong about her thesis The Planet’s Pulse. Unfortunately, this naivety and drive is what ultimately leads to her own undoing. It leads to her rushing something too fast, and costs her mentor and friend Grimoire Valentine’s life. Something she blames herself for for the rest of her life.
Something, that would also complicate her future relationship with his son, Vincent Valentine. With him having been assigned her bodyguard during the time she and other scientists were staying inside Shinra Manor, she hid her involvement in his father’s death. It ate away at her as the two became close─even mutually loved one another─until the day Vincent accidentally stumbled across his father’s file on her terminal.
Arguments could be made that she suffers from post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), specifically the survivor’s guilt variety, and I’m inclined to agree with the argument for it. Going with this theory, much of her actions in distancing herself from those who love her (like Vincent) was caused by the survivor’s guilt of holding a dying Grimoire in her arms as he returned to the Lifestream’s flow─all because he’d taken that blow meant for her. After Vincent’s discovery of Grimoire’s file, she’s often on edge and more prone to angry outbursts─as is made apparent when Vincent confronts her and Hojo about her (willing albeit conflicted) participation in Jenova Project: S. She also seemed to have been avoiding much of her research on Chaos and Omega, though it may have been due to the Jenova Project taking a precedent.
Her’s is a sad tale, and while she herself has messed up things for herself, it is not only her actions that directly involve her drastic changes in personality. As mentioned before, she truly was a caring soul, and until she allowed her guilt to rule her choices and push away the man she loved, it was clear to see. The first sign something had gone awry was the moment Vincent recalls that when she’d chosen Hojo “the light left her heart”. She’d withdrawn almost completely by the time she and Hojo were wed, and became defensive when her choices came into question despite her own personal misgivings. All of which is the early signs of an abusive relationship, and because it’s Hojo, it’s probably a no brainer. Why do I mention it? Because it is her relationship with her husband that ultimately leads her down the dark path to suicidal behavior. Where she was caring and wanted to be involved with their son’s life, Hojo prevented her from ever seeing Sephiroth, mocking her affection for their successful experiment. While she grieved for Vincent’s death and did everything in her power to save him, Hojo belittled her feelings and claimed it was just another experiment with a failed test subject. While she studied the Ancient scriptures and wrote about her findings of the discoveries she and Grimoire had made, he openly mocked it as utter nonsense. Over time, she may even started to believe his words. In the end, she couldn’t take anymore and fled to the same caves they’d discovered Chaos and Protomateria.
Lucrecia suffers from a massive guilt complex for much of the above reasons, believing that most of which were her own fault. Grimoire had died to save her life. She’d failed to listen to Vincent, her own bodyguard, and it had cost him his life as a normal human being. She’d married a monster who would kill solely for the reason of disagreeing with him. Yet despite her husband’s degrading comments and blatant disregard of her feelings, she tried to right at least one wrong she felt guilty for… though she would never see Vincent recovered until much later.
She is very protective of others when pushed to do so, as she had been when Hojo first discovered her attempts to revive his “failed experiment”. Despite knowing he had murdered the man, she stood between him and her research and vehemently denied that it was not an experiment. She also continued on despite her illness and overworking herself when other women would be taking it easy in the third trimester/post-delivery. Unfortunately her grief and guilt were too much for her to handle, and without any semblance of support, her resolve crumbled after leaving Vincent the tools he would need to maintain control over his faculties now that Chaos resided inside of him. She also left her thesis for him to better understand the entity.
To say she is emotionally unstable would be an understatement. For decades she wanted to take her own life, but was unable to due to the very experiments that caused her so much agony and intensified complications both during and after the pregnancy that would lead to the birth of her son Sephiroth. Still, she was a mother, and she still cares for the son she never got to meet outside her nightmarish visions. Her last words were to ask a now-revived Vincent whether the rumors were true, and if Sephiroth had passed away. She grieved in silence when told by the last man she trusted confirmed the rumor.

To all Heroes of Light,
Greetings. For those who I have not had the pleasure of meeting whether in Mysidia or Aqures Ixen, I am one of the rumored "Other Heroes" of whom you've likely heard of so much. To answer the standard question, yes, we were summoned here by Kalki─someone I've heard has caused trouble with you all─in Aqures Tosf. As we have only known her as a helpful guide, I would like to know more about her and her actions from your perspectives. In return, I am willing to answer any questions you have as well. Though I do ask for discretion, considering how many of us are...
Forgive me, but c- [It's here that Orpheus realizes he is not meant to write this part and tries to cross it out as well as he could. Oops.]

REVISIONS - Personality
Still, she is very strong-willed of character. Later in canon it's expressed with how she self-imprisons herself in crystal, but that was channeled into a new goal here in Crystallis during the seven months of wandering. Kalki had given her a new goal and purpose by summoning her with the others─firstly to protect those who'd been crystallized, secondly to survive. As a very goal driven woman, it was easy to focus on the task at hand─as is evidenced back on Gaia, where her goals to prove herself in a male-dominated field were obvious to those who knew her. It was her goal to prove her colleagues wrong about her "pseudoscience" and "utter nonsense" theories derived from the Cetran texts weren't just idle ramblings of a delusional girl.
To say she was passionate about her work would be an obvious understatement, but this passion was not just reserved for the sciences. Lucrecia truly cared for those around her, as is evidenced in the relationships she held with Vincent and Hojo─though the latter never really reciprocated her feelings. She is even almost motherly in her teasing nature. Though now it may be hard for her to fully express such things aside from her mask she used first to hide her ties to Grimoire's death, now that others know of her own sin. Now, she seeks to atone─and has a vain hope she could finally die while doing so.
